Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the the material based on the article "Millions in Japan Gamble on Illegal Casino Sites" that you kindly selected on 30 March 2025.
In general, gambling is addictive and a very frightening form of entertainment.
To make matters worse, online casino is quite easy for even children to do.
However, there are no rules and laws to regulate the advertisements of illegal online gambling services.
I expect that the Japanese government should make the law to restrict it.
When it comes to public gambling, I have experienced online horse racing as a trial without paying money.
As a result, I got about 3,000 yen and removed my account. So I can keep the winning state for good.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the the material based on the article "Nearly 80,000 People Moved to Tokyo in 2024" that you kindly selected on 9 March 2025.
I appreciate that Tokyo has a lot of opportunities to find good jobs.
There are also many colleges and universities and many places that attract students in Tokyo. The temptation are likely to hinder the students' study time. In general, the academic performance of most private universities in Tokyo is not better than many people thought, even though the universities have high caliber and tuition. Of course, there are some exceptions, national public universities in Tokyo have quite high academic performance.
For that reason, choosing universities in Tokyo is not always a good decision.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the the material based on the article "The Role of Anime in Manga's Worldwide Success" that you kindly selected on 4 March 2025.
"Weekly Shōnen Jump" is the most popular manga anthology that comes out every week and contains the latest episode.
My parents didn't allow me to buy the manga comics, so I used to browse the magazine in a bookstore when I was a kid.
Popular mangas are more likely to appear in magazines for longer years, the child readers will be adults.
Of course, they have to work, so they cannot afford to read magazines.
Animes of the popular mangas will be created. The Anime port is well summarized and it has motion, voice, music, so it is very comfortable to watch.
For that reason, I prefer the anime port to the original manga.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the the material based on the article "Wealth Gap in Japan Growing, Research Finds" that you kindly selected on 22 Feb. 2025.
As I said in the lesson, I sometimes feel that the wealth gap is growing in real life. In spite of inflation, our salaries have remained the same, while some employees work in large companies are getting raises.
In addition, people who own a lot of real estate in urban areas are privileged because they do not have to pay a lot of taxes due to the current law.
Many taxes are deducted monthly from our salaries, so I am disappointed with my spendable money.
To improve the situation, it is necessary to change the current law. However, the rich people will oppose it because they have influence over the politicians.
For taht reason, Japanese nations cannot expect the current situation to improve.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the the material based on the article "US Approves First New Pain Medicine in 25 Years" that you kindly selected on 15 Feb. 2025.
When it comes to drugs, the Japanese government and lawmakers are conservative, and it takes a long time for new medicines to be approved.
So I cannot expect any new medicines in Japan. In addition, the government controls the price of mediciens, it sometimes cause a shortage of medicines.
Meanwhile, we can easily buy over-the-counter medicines in Japan. So the overdose among Japanese people is getting serious these days. There are restrictions on the purchase of medicines in online stores.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "200 UK Companies Switch to Four-Day Work Week" that you kindly selected on 2 Feb. 2025.
If a four-day work week were introduced in Japan, it would only benefit employees of large companies in Japan.
Most employees who work for medium or small companies have to bring their work home, because their workload isn't reduced.
In addition, their salaries are reduced for reducing their working hours.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Japan's Ekiden Sees Increase in Global Interest" that you kindly selected on 1 Feb. 2025.
As I mentioned in the lesson, I dont't like Ekiden and Hakone Ekiden for the following reasons.
The "Hakone Ekiden" has a kind of advertising aspect, because the runners who belong to universities are private universities except for some cases.
Also, I don't recommend team sports, but I strongly recommend individual sports such as tennis, swimming, track and field, and so on. Even if one of the team members fails, he/she would be severely blamed.
In the past, I used to belong to a certain ball game club, but I never actually played in any matches. For that reason, I was even worse at the sport than ordinary people who had no experience of it.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Report Highlights Key Skills Employees Need in 2025" that you kindly selected on 29 Jan. 2025.
Due to the advancement of AI technology, I expect that some skills would be made light of nowadays.
However, the AI is basically based on past experience, so it is bad at creating something new.
I admit the "analytical thinking" is a reasonable skill, but the AI may can take the place of the skill sooner or later.
For that reason, I recommend that we get skills that are not highlighted by a questionnaire.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Kyoto Plans to Charge Visitors Up to 900% More in Tax" that you kindly selected on 21 Jan. 2025.
The city of Kyoto currently has two contradictory tasks.
One is to solve over-tourism, and the other is to solve Kyoto's huge deficit.
I recommend that Kyoto city should solve the huge deficit first, because a low budget would make citizens unhappy.
So I disagree with Kyoto's plan to raise the accommodation tax if I were a Kyoto citizen.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Why Are Japanese Companies Hiring Foreign Workers?" that you kindly selected on 12 Jan. 2025.
I recommend that the Japanese government abolish the notorious "technical intern" VISAs, because the victims are exploited by gullible farm owners. I'm ashamed that the owners are Japanese.
Meanwhile, I agree with the idea of attracting skilled foreign workers to work in the Japanese tech industries.
Nowadays, I suppose the sluggish IT industry in Japan is blamed on low-skilled Japanese self-proclaimed engineers.
To improve the situation, working with highly skilled foreign engineers can give Japanese engineers a sense of urgency.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Japanese City Puts Ad Online for New Mayor" that you kindly selected on 18 Dec. 2024.
First of all, I've never heard of Shijonawate city until I read this news, even though I'm Japanese.
Nowadays, there are many young mayors in local cities in Japan. Actually, the mayor of my hometown is in his twenties.
In general, young mayors are more likely to think unusual policies. So this article reminds me of that trend.
I basically support the mayor of Shijonawate City because the online advertisement is so ubiquitous that many people can easily refer to the job description. As a result, there is a high chance that a brilliant candidate can become mayor.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Master Your Time: Achieve More with Simple Daily Strategies" that you kindly selected on 14 Dec. 2024.
I'm basiccaly agree with the new work style, three days-off in a week.
However, it would be quite difficult to adapt the new system to employees of all local government and private medium and small sized Japanese companies.
Some citizens may complain that public employees are lazy. The private companies cannot afford to take the system for a financial reason.
Even if the system is adopted, amount of their work would not be reduces. I suspect that some of employees will bring their work to their homes as homework.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Tokyo Rises in Global Ranking of City Brands" that you kindly selected on 7 Dec. 2024.
I have lived in Tokyo for more than half of my life. So, I agree with the most of the article, but I don't agree with the only "Tokyo is leader in science and technology" in it.
Actually, there are many high-tech companies in Tokyo, but most of them are just headquarters.
Meanwhile, laboratories, institutions and universities that are quite good at science are not only in Tokyo, but also in other areas of Japan such as neighboring prefectures of Tokyo have them.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Japanese Power Companies Sued over Climate Change" that you kindly selected on 5 Nov. 2024.
It's obvious that the plaintiff will lose the lawsuit. Presumably, the plaintiff's attorney will concede the outcome.
However, their real purpose must be to let the world know that they are the first plaintiffs in Japan's history to sue a power company for environmental problems.
Most of the plaintiffs are young, so I assume that their activity can be used as an achievement to apply for entrance exams to universities in Japan.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Japan Election: Ruling Coalition Loses its Majority" that you kindly selected on 3 Nov. 2024.
The ruling party failed in the last national election on October 27.
I suppose there are many reasons of the failure, but the main reason why they lost the seats is slush fund as finance scandal. The result of the election was reflected in the idea of the Japanese cizens.
However, I'm concerned that it would take a long time to enact new laws because the opposition parties are likely to oppose them. As a result, Japan will fall behind other countries in many fields and industries.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Japan's Reading Habits Revealed: 63% Don't Read Books" that you kindly selected on 20 Oct. 2024.
I have to follow the trend that many Japanese people rarely read books. The main reason is that I'm tied up with work every day, so I can't afford to read books.
I suppose there are other reasons for this trend.
Especially the young generation is likely to pursue time efficiency. So they prefer watching movies to reading novels, because reading novels takes a long time, but watching movies takes only two hours.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class.

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Japan's Widest Gender Pay Gap is in Tochigi" that you kindly selected on 12 Oct. 2024.
The reason why rural areas such as Kochi, Iwate and Nagasaki have the lowest gender pay gap is the family structure.
When it comes to working mothers, in general, grandmothers in rural areas are more likely to help and support mothers with household chores and childcare.
The mothers who are supported can concentrate on their work and are more likely to be promoted.
As a result, female workers can earn more money than female workers in metropolitan areas, of which Tochigi is one.

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Japan Could Have 80% Renewable Energy by 2035" that you kindly selected on 5 Oct. 2024.
Switching from conventional energy to renewable energy costs a lot because new institutions and equipment are must.
For the early phase of changing the energy, the Japanese government must be debt as an investment.
Of course, the tax of Japanese will be increased and the they will have complaints and oppositions about the energy change.
For this reason, it would be difficult to achive the goal by 2035.

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Dyes with That? McDonald's Staff in Japan Can Dye Hair" that you kindly selected on 24 Sep. 2024.
This article reminds me of my junior high school days many years ago.
A rule of some junior high schools in my hometown forced students to have buzz hair cut like a a Buddhist monk. My hometown is located in a rural area of Japan. So the people are very conservative and stubborn. This is because the junior high schools had very strict and ridiculous rules.
Meanwhile, schools in metropolitan areas are more tolerant of style than those in rural areas. Since there are many nationalities in Tokyo.

It was an enjoyable, tactful class, as always, from the material based on the article "Many Japanese Seniors Wish They'd Studied More" that you kindly selected on 22 Sep. 2024.
After reading this artcile, my thoguth is that the 80% rate in this article includes, not only universities and colleges, but also vocational and technical schools, etc.
In the past, when I was a high school student, the percentage of students going on to university was about 30 to 40%, but today the university entrance rate is 60%.
At that time, the following reasons impeded the students to go to universities and colleges.
1) A biased atmosphere in which farmers do not need an educational background.
2) High interest rates on the student loans.
About the 2), there is a way to use a notorious student loan in Japan, but many Japanese are likely to mix up a student loan with a scholarship.
Most of the universities and colleges are private, so they charge high tuition fees, so the student loans may not be sufficient.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |
