Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Germany to Make It Harder for Workers to Call in Sick' that you kindly selected for me on 12 July 2026.
Based on my experience, most traditional Japanese companies require their employees to submit a doctor's note if they take long-term sick leave.
I agree with the article regarding the importance of this kind of evidence to prevent employees from abusing sick leave or skipping work.
However, getting a doctor's note is extremely expensive in Japan.
Therefore, companies should offer cost-effective alternatives to a doctor's note.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class.

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Japanese Mayor Will Be First to Take Maternity Leave’ that you kindly selected for me on 23 June 2026.
It was not until I read the article that I realized current Japanese law does not allow politicians to take 14 weeks of maternity leave.
Nowadays, the number of female mayors has been increasing.
So, I recommend that the Japanese government amend the current law to allow politicians to take maternity leave.
I was also a little bit surprised that Mayor Kawata is the first mayor to take maternity leave.
Of course, there are a lot of female mayors in Japan, but their average age is over 50 years old.
For this reason, she has become an exemplary mayor in contemporary Japanese society.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Digital Textbooks Made Official in Japan's Schools’ that you kindly selected for me on 20 June 2026.
I disagree with the digitalization of textbooks unless e-books are provided as an option.
I am completely opposed to the idea that only digital textbooks should be allowed for students, for the following reasons.
First, students cannot directly take notes on digital textbooks.
Second, if their tablet or laptop PC does not work, they won't be able to open their textbooks.
Last but certainly not least, entrance examinations are still paper-based, making handwriting skills essential.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Fewer Japanese Students Studying Abroad’ that you kindly selected for me on 17 June 2026.
Considering many factors nowadays, I suppose that studying abroad is less cost-effective and time-effective than learning foreign languages domestically.
This is because there are tons of opportunities to learn foreign languages through resources such as online lessons, in-person schools, and AI apps.
Meanwhile, studying abroad requires tremendous costs, as mentioned in the article.
To make matters worse, the actual time devoted to learning is much shorter, contrary to what some Japanese students might believe, because they have to do chores, clean the house, go shopping, and so on.
Simply spending time in the same environment as native speakers does not automatically improve your proficiency.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Tokyo's Shibuya District Declares War on Litter’ that you kindly selected for me on 12 June 2026.
This new municipal rule reminded me of a similar existing regulation. In the past, a rule that fines people for smoking on the street was established in certain areas.
Meanwhile, littering in tourist spots has become a growing problem in recent years, so it is quite natural to establish this new rule.
The main reason for this littering issue is the reduction of public trash bins on the streets for security reasons.
Consequently, many streets in Japan became messy, and local residents called for the establishment of a new law.
I appreciate this law as a deterrent against people who litter.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'South-Facing Apartments Less Popular in Japanese Heat' that you kindly selected for me on 4 June 2026.
I'd like to purchase a south-facing detached house, even though south-facing apartments have become less popular in the Japanese real estate market, especially in metropolitan areas.
First of all, we cannot buy natural sunlight, even if we pay a ton of money.
On the other hand, we can easily achieve a comfortable temperature by purchasing air conditioners.
However, I would be open to a high-rise condo that is not south-facing, or even a north-facing condo, which is traditionally the least popular direction in the Japanese market.
This is because sufficient natural sunlight enters even north-facing rooms in high-rise condos.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Japan's Izakaya Closing Down at Record Rate' that you kindly selected for me on 29 May 2026.
Small-sized Izakayas, which are traditional Japanese bars but not part of major Izakaya chains, have rested on their laurels with their conservative regular customers for many years.
Nowadays, young people have changed their mindset due to inflation and the WHO's announcement that alcohol is harmful. As a result, they are avoiding izakayas.
To make matters worse, such traditional Izakayas give the cold shoulder to customers who do not order much alcohol because they cannot make a sufficient profit from them.
I believe it is quite natural that Izakayas that stick to obsolete ideas go bankrupt, and I personally would not support them.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Many Workers Don't Want to Be Managers — Survey' that you kindly selected for me on 21 May 2026.
As a manager myself, I understand both the advantages and disadvantages of a management role.
One of the biggest advantages is the salary.
The greater the responsibility of your position, the higher your salary gets.
In addition, having a managerial title and experience is highly advantageous when changing jobs.
Meanwhile, one of the biggest disadvantages is the lack of overtime pay.
Overall, however, I believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and becoming a manager is well worth it.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Is AI Making People Retire Early?' that you kindly selected for me on 19 April 2026.
I partially agree with the idea that AI might bring the retirement age forward from 60 in Japan.
However, I expect that the number of people losing their jobs won't increase at a rapid pace.
Employees in Japan have strong protections to retain their jobs because vested interests hold great power in Japanese society.
Meanwhile, it was reported that some famous Japanese companies have adopted job-based employment rather than conventional membership-based employment.
This fact implies that new graduates who possess specific skills are more easily hired than liberal arts majors.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

Thank you so much, May.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material "572,000 to Travel Abroad for Japan's 'Golden Week'" that you kindly selected for me on 15 April 2026.
I was a little bit surprised to find that so many Japanese people will travel during Golden Week despite inflation and the fuel crisis.
I believe the survey results are accurate, because, in fact, one of my colleagues is going to travel abroad to an Asian country.
This really made me feel that the wealth gap has been widening, even in Japan.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |
