Thank you so much, Pie.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Why Rural Life in Japan Can Be Difficult - Survey' that you kindly selected for me on 9 May 2026.
There are several reasons why rural life in Japan is quite difficult for those who were born and raised in urban areas.
As I mentioned in the lesson, elderly people in rural areas tend to be stubborn.
This characteristic may cause conflicts between young newcomers and the senior local residents.
To make matters worse, living in rural areas requires additional costs, including fuel for vehicles and heating.
Furthermore, taxes depend on the town they live in, because the maintenance of facilities in the countryside is very costly.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Japan Encourages Shorts at Work to Beat Summer Heat' that you kindly selected for me on 8 May 2026.
As I mentioned in the lesson, we expect this coming summer to be scorching hot.
To make matters worse, oil prices have risen due to the conflict between Iran and the US.
The Japanese government has stockpiled oil, but the supply will only last for 10 months.
For this reason, the government will take further actions, such as reducing electricity and oil consumption, unless the oil supply recovers.
I really hope that our company will encourage employees to work from home again, just like during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Instant Noodles Find New Home on Restaurant Menus' that you kindly selected for me on 6 May 2026.
It seems that there are some Ramen restaurants in Japan where instant noodles are served with customers' favorite toppings.
I do not particularly support such restaurants, because I would rather enjoy authentic Ramen at real Ramen shops where chefs strive to serve their best creations.
That being said, I like instant noodles since they are convenient and inexpensive.
They are sometimes classified as junk food, but I usually add some vegetables to make up for the lack of nutrients.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Experts Urge Higher Taxes on Alcohol and Junk Food to Fight Liver Disease' that you kindly selected for me on 5 May 2026.
According to a recent study by the WHO, even a small amount of alcohol is quite harmful to our health, contrary to what many people believed in the past.
Even medical doctors used to say that drinking alcohol in moderation could be regarded as a kind of medicine.
However, this fact is not widely known in Japan. As a result, elderly people still believe the myth.
It seems that alcoholic beverage manufacturers are putting pressure on institutions such as the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare not to disclose this fact.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Coffee Drinkers May Get Gut and Brain Benefits' that you kindly selected for me on 4 May 2026.
According to a recent study by the WHO, caffeine does not cause cancer, contrary to what many people believed in the past.
In addition, not only does coffee not cause cancer, but it can also reduce the risk of certain cancers, such as liver cancer.
In the past, my parents told me not to drink coffee. Today, however, considering its health benefits, most parents would probably advise their children to drink a few cups of coffee once they grow up.
Considering this fact, we need to keep up with the latest information and avoid being influenced by fake news to stay healthy.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Circular Economy', 'Study Says Big Dairy, Meat Companies Are Greenwashing' that you kindly selected for me on 2 May 2026.
Recently, many Japanese companies have been using clichés such as 'eco-friendly' and 'sustainable.'
As I mentioned in the lesson, I recommend that companies dare to be honest and say something like, 'We are pursuing profits rather than the environment' in a situation where these typical words are rampant
This is because people have started to feel that these companies are just Greenwashing.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Burger King Japan Pays Rival Restaurants to Switch Brands' that you kindly selected for me on 30 April 2026.
This was a timely topic for me because a new Burger King opened near my local station this year.
Nowadays, almost every station along the JR Chuo Line has a Burger King.
Franchise owners who switch their current restaurants to Burger King are given a unique subsidy, which is very beneficial to them. This policy is a great strategy to expand Burger King's presence in Japan.
Meanwhile, I doubt that this growth will be sustainable in the long run.
This is because most Japanese people tend to be health-conscious and avoid junk food. In addition, there are already many giant domestic restaurant chains in Japan.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Why Are People Protesting Japan's New Weapon Sales Rules?' that you kindly selected for me on 29 April 2026.
As I mentioned in the lesson, I'm not against the Japanese government's decision to export weapons to other countries.
This is because the government is correctly following international rules, and the weapons are non-lethal. I believe that exporting them can contribute to improving Japan's economic condition.
In addition, it would serve as a kind of deterrent to other countries by demonstrating the quality of the weapons.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Why Are Rising Interest Rates Seen As Positive For Japan's Economy?' that you kindly selected for me on 25 April 2026.
The article contains a lot of technical terms regarding economics.
Since I'm not an expert in economics, I was not able to understand the mechanism of why rising interest rates will have a positive impact on the current state of the Japanese economy.
However, I was relieved to hear the prospect that our lives will improve if the Japanese people endure current issues such as inflation, stagnant wages, and a potential fuel crisis.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Japan Brings Big New Changes to Help Families and Older Workers' that you kindly selected for me on 20 April 2026.
As the article mentioned, the following financial burdens have been added to our taxes and fines:
- Health insurance premiums
- Penalties for bicycle rule violations
The additional funds will be used for child-rearing support, but this policy does not provide any direct benefits to single men and women. However, I strongly support the idea because it is quite beneficial for addressing the declining birth rate.
Meanwhile, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government provides various subsidies to its residents, such as free high school education and childcare support grants. I really appreciate it.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Energy Crisis Forces Asian Nations To Raise Office Temperatures' that you kindly selected for me on 18 April 2026.
Our company has decided to change its work style policy from full-time remote work to working in the office almost full-time.
Consequently, employees are only allowed to work remotely a few times a month.
Most employees are viewing this situation as a good opportunity to push for the return of full remote work, because they are eager to work from home full-time.
Of course, they recognise that the fuel crisis will severely damage our lives.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'A Peaceful Walk Through Yoshiike Gardens In Hakone' that you kindly selected for me on 16 April 2026.
It was not until I read the article that I realized that such a historical and aesthetic hotel existed in the Hakone area.
As I mentioned in the lesson, I have not visited Yoshiike Ryokan, although I have been to Hakone several times.
Actually, I was born and raised in a rural area, so I'm familiar with traditional accommodations surrounded by nature and large gardens.
However, people who have lived in urban areas would be mesmerised by such a traditional atmosphere.

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'How to Help Remote Workers Feel Connected' that you kindly selected for me on 10 April 2026.
As I mentioned in the lesson, I recommend that managers arrange 1on1 meetings to maintain connections.
The topic of the meeting should be trivial things, as work-related topics may put pressure on the participant.

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'The Japanese Americans Who Want to Return Home' that you kindly selected for me on 8 April 2026.
I basically agree with the idea that Japanese Americans are eager to trace their roots because it allows them to gain a profound understanding of who they are.
At the same time, they may experience cultural differences caused by certain Japanese traits, such as stubbornness and exclusivity.
They should learn about these aspects beforehand to mitigate the culture shock when exploring their heritage.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class. |
