7. Forget Office Cubicles, Try ‘Co-working’
When you think of a workspace, the cubicles in a traditional office are probably the first thing that comes to mind. Following Uber and Airbnb, the sharing economy has brought a new kind of work environment to the United States and the world in recent years.
It’s not a bar, nor a coffee shop. And it’s not your bedroom. It’s a so-called co-working space, where an increasing number of Americans work. WeWork is one of the providers of such environments.
“The beauty of the space is that we are a community, we kind of all work together. So, in this building, I can find a lawyer and an accountant. I can also find somebody to help me with my design, my website development,” says Carl Pierre of WeWork-DC.
The new sharing economy is changing the way business has traditionally been done. The commercial real estate industry is no exception. In Washington and around the world, people from all walks of life are turning to this new kind of work environment, sharing infrastructure, services, events, and technology.
At WeWork, members have different plans to choose from. The price ranges from 45 to thousands of dollars a month and offers different levels of access to the facilities, such as office equipment, conference rooms, dedicated desks, and private working spaces. Members can even bring their dogs to work.
Erica Ettin is the founder of A Little Nudge, which helps people with all aspects of online dating.
“I’ve gotten clients from here. I’ve gotten business contacts. I had to shoot some videos for something – there’s a company here that shoots videos, and I hired them. It’s just really nice to have a network of people who I wouldn’t have met otherwise,” Ettin says.

Freelancer Lee Canon says Cove [a co-working space] provides the flexibility she wants.
“This sort of space is perfect. Because I’m around people, I feel kind of accountable to be working, but it’s also not noisy. There’s no espresso machine going; there’s no blender going,” Canon says.
What seems to attract millennials most about co-working are network resources and the sense of community.

Thank you so much, Emelyn.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Companies destroying books to train AI models' that you kindly selected for me on 27 Oct. 2026.
I'm in favour of the idea that the advancement of AI quality is preferable because I use generative AI services every day.
However, wasting paper books for the improvement AI would not be accepted.
Nowadays, there are machines that can scan paper books without damaging them.
The AI companies should use machines to obtain knowledge from paper books and create databases.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class.

Thank you so much, Emelyn.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Eating less protein could help you live longer' that you kindly selected for me on 26 Oct. 2026.
Although protein is widely known as a beneficial nutrient, I was not surprised by the article's findings.
This is because the WHO has stated that consuming red meat may cause cancer.
Generally, meat is high in protein, but eating it can pose health risks.
Meanwhile, obtaining protein from beans, such as soybeans, appears to carry no such risks.
For these reasons, we should carefully consider the sources of our protein intake.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class.

Thank you so much, Emelyn. It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Japan's population falls three million in five years' that you kindly selected for me on 23 Oct. 2026.
This problem has remained unsolved for many years, even though the Japanese government has provided financial aid to its citizens, especially to child-rearing households.
However, I believe that it is virtually impossible to resolve the issue now, and that it is already too late.
Interestingly, some experts have pointed out that one of the major reasons for the low birth rate is young Japanese men's physical appearance.
Most young women of marriageable age are highly particular about their potential partner's looks, including their facial features and body shape. For instance, they prefer their partners to be neither overweight nor short.
I recommend that the Japanese government promote the idea that a person's value lies in their character rather than their appearance, through dramas, movies, and other forms of media.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class.

Thank you so much, Emelyn.
It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'One billion meals thrown away every day' that you kindly selected for me on 21 Oct. 2026.
I forgot to tell you that one of the convenience store chain giants, 7-Eleven, has been ranked 9th among the worst 10 companies for food waste.
Convenience stores are ubiquitous in Japan, but most people are unaware of this fact.
This infamous ranking can be attributed to their franchise scheme, which is quite disadvantageous for the store owners.
It seems almost impossible to improve the current situation regarding food waste in Japan.
Therefore, the only thing ordinary consumers can do is avoid purchasing food at convenience stores.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class.

It was an enjoyable and insightful class as always, based on the material 'Schools closed in France as students clash with police' that you kindly selected for me on 18 Oct. 2026.
I have rarely heard of such riots in Japan, except for the riots in the Nishinari ward of Osaka Prefecture.
The fact that high school students participated in these protests is also unprecedented in Japan.
This case in France shows the difference between the two countries in terms of education and public safety.
High school students in Japan generally prioritize studying over other activities.
If they participated in protests, their future careers would suffer.
However, they should learn from the proactive attitude of French high school students to a certain extent.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking your next class.
